  14. I have a problem with my USR Sportster External 33.6k that probably 
  15. most of you have already heard of, that is, it disconnects after a 
  16. while during a session due to unsuccessful retraining.
  17.  
  18. Having read a lot of suggestions, I have found that the culprit to 
  19. this problem is the LAPM Error Correction protocol that caused the 
  20. slowdown and disconnection.  Hence I have disabled Error Correction 
  21. (&M0) and to my surprise, the connection remained for more than 12 
  22. hours!

  24. However, I want to ask other Sportster owners a question.  Having 
  25. disabled the EC, I now get random bursts of garbage on my screen 
  26. (with more for higher speeds)

  28. So I want to know how could I JUST disable LAPM, and replace it 
  29. with another EC protocol, such as V42 and MNP error control?  I have 
  30. already asked USR support but didn't solve the problem.
  31. What I'm looking for is any registers that can be changed so that 
  32. only LAPM is disabled, or force enable another EC protocol.  Also, 
  33. if anyone knows why this problem only occurs in high speed modes 
  34. such as VFC or V34 but not in V32bis connections?
