- Hello all,
-
- I have a problem with my USR Sportster External 33.6k that probably
- most of you have already heard of, that is, it disconnects after a
- while during a session due to unsuccessful retraining.
-
- Having read a lot of suggestions, I have found that the culprit to
- this problem is the LAPM Error Correction protocol that caused the
- slowdown and disconnection. Hence I have disabled Error Correction
- (&M0) and to my surprise, the connection remained for more than 12
- hours!
-
- However, I want to ask other Sportster owners a question. Having
- disabled the EC, I now get random bursts of garbage on my screen
- (with more for higher speeds)
-
- So I want to know how could I JUST disable LAPM, and replace it
- with another EC protocol, such as V42 and MNP error control? I have
- already asked USR support but didn't solve the problem.
- What I'm looking for is any registers that can be changed so that
- only LAPM is disabled, or force enable another EC protocol. Also,
- if anyone knows why this problem only occurs in high speed modes
- such as VFC or V34 but not in V32bis connections?
-
- Thanks very much in advance.
-
- Regards,
- Sidney Chow
